Pat C. Pennington was a part of the A.I.S.D. athletics program for over 30 years. He began his career at Pearce Jr. High and then moved to John. H. Reagan High School when it opened in 1965. In his 25 years at Reagan, he coached thousands of young men in basketball, baseball, track and football. He also touched the lives of many boys and girls through his Physical Education classes.
Pat was a member of the football coaching staff in the late 60’s and early 70’s when Reagan won 3 State Championships and he was integral in taking the Raiders to several years of District Championships. He retired in 1990 and took up his second career…playing golf! He developed Emphysema several years later and passed in 1999.
His family continues to be honored by the calls, cards and letters from former students who communicate their admiration and respect for “Coach” Pennington. Many say that he played a pivotal role in their lives, teaching them to work hard, be accountable for their actions and do their best – even if they weren’t the biggest or fastest kid on the team. He was regarded as “an extremely effective coach and role model to young men… fair and encouraging…”
